Microchip Acquires Radiation-Hardened Chipmaker VORAGO Technologies

Microchip announced on October 9 that it has acquired VORAGO Technologies, an Austin-based private company whose radiation-hardened chips operate in high-radiation environments and at temperatures up to 200°C, serving aerospace, defense and industrial mission-critical applications.

Terms were not disclosed; Microchip said the acquisition will have no material impact on combined financial results. The deal strengthens its aerospace and defense solutions portfolio.

Infineon Launches TRAVEO T2G CYT4EN Automotive Cluster MCU

Infineon's new automotive-grade cluster MCU, the TRAVEO T2G CYT4EN, pairs with external LPDDR4 memory to render 2.5D graphics and 3D content, driving dual Full HD displays without a separate SoC.

The memory subsystem was co-optimized with Micron, the chip supports ASIL-B functional safety, boots in under 150 milliseconds, and is available now.

Samsung Cuts Q4 Phone Supply by up to 30% as Memory Prices Bite

Samsung has told its supply chain it will cut fourth-quarter phone supply by 20–30%, as surging memory prices erase handset margins.

AI data centers have diverted wafer capacity away from mobile DRAM, pushing mobile memory contract prices up 175% over the past year. Samsung's full-year phone output is now expected at around 200 million units, down from 270 million.

Navitas and Microchip Unveil 800V Reference Design for AI Data Centers

The reference design, announced October 5, collapses rack power conversion from two stages to one — converting 800V DC directly to 6V DC and skipping the intermediate 50V bus.

It targets 96% full-load efficiency and 2,100 W/in³ power density, pairing Microchip's dsPIC33AK digital controller with 16 Navitas NV6034 GaN FETs. Reference boards, software and design documentation open to developers at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, October 12–15.

Samsung Locks Up 75–80% of 2027 Memory Output in Long-Term Deals

Samsung has pre-committed roughly 75–80% of next year's memory capacity to long-term agreements, with Nvidia, Google and Microsoft seeking supply locks of five years or more.

The memory business is shifting from quarterly pricing to a long-term-contract model, leaving shrinking spot availability for distributors and the open market.
